(AP) - Part of the Meadowbrook Parkway was closed for nearly six hours as police investigated a report of a driver with a handgun.
The roadway was reopened shortly before 3 p.m. Tuesday. State police determined the 37-year-old Oceanside man died of what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
The man's car was parked on the southbound shoulder of the highway. The first officers on the scene noticed he had a handgun and initially backed off. After several attempts to contact the man failed, officers moved closer and determined the man had a gunshotwound to his head.
The man's identity was not released by police.
Investigators believe he may have been despondent over financial issues.
