(05/01/08) WOODBURY - Published reports state that cable Cablevision Systems plans to offer of up to $650 million to acquire Newsday from the Tribune Company. The report says a bid could come within 48 hours. A Cablevision spokesman is declining to comment. Any offer would be the third for the Long Island daily. It would follow competing bids of $580 million each. They came from Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation and from real estate developer Mortimer Zuckerman. Zuckerman owns the New York Daily News. Murdoch owns the Journal and the New York Post. Tribune chief executive Sam Zell said two weeks ago he was considering selling Newsday.
Cablevision is the parent company of News 12.
