Suffolk County does not make the grade when it comes to air quality, according to the American Lung Association?s latest report on New York air.
The report measures two pollutants, ozone and particle. Michael Seilback, of ALA?s New York chapter, says ozone pollution can be described as smog, and particle pollution is basically soot in the air.
The association gave Suffolk an F for ozone pollution and Nassau County a C in particle pollution. Experts say deadly toxins in the air place people at high risk for chronic bronchitis and cardiovascular disease and pose an even greater risk for those with asthma.
Seilback says the ALA is calling on the state to create a fund to clean up the diesel trucks used in the state?s counties.
