Immigration raids across 10 major U.S. cities appear scheduled to begin this weekend.
The New York Times says that the nationwide raids aimed at arresting thousands of undocumented people will begin Sunday.
Trump administration officials say the raids will target people who already have final deportation orders, but warned that other undocumented immigrants could be taken into custody as well.
Democratic lawmakers and immigrant advocates voiced their opposition to the planned ICE enforcement operation on Thursday.
Eliana Fernandez, of Make the Road, is reminding undocumented immigrants that they have the legal right not to answer the door. She said to ask for identification and a warrant signed by a judge that has the name of the individual they're looking for.
News 12 received phone calls and spoke to residents in Freeport and on Clinton Avenue in Roosevelt who say they believed that law enforcement officers who were in their neighborhood were ICE agents already carrying out the raids.
A spokeswoman for ICE said that ICE agents were not in Freeport and Roosevelt today.
News 12 later found out it was the New York state Division of Parole working with the U.S. Marshals.
If an undocumented immigrant wants to check whether a removal order has been issued against them, they can call the Immigration Court Information System's automated number at 1-800-898-7180.
