While Thanksgiving is supposed to be a day meant for spending time with family, more and more people are finding themselves at work.
P.C. Richard & Son is one retailer that will be closed on Thursday so employees can spend time with their friends and loved ones.
Rep. Steve Israel joined with a district manager of P.C. Richard & Son Wednesday to applaud their 'Save Thanksgiving' campaign.
Israel wants to encourage companies to ask for volunteers to work on Thanksgiving, as well as give holiday pay or overtime to those who do work.
He says while many companies already do, it's important for all companies to respect working families who spend the holidays apart.
Other large retailers that are staying closed on Thanksgiving include Costco, Nordstrom, Marshalls, Crate & Barrel and American Girl.
