Long Islanders are pitching in after a devastating cyclone killed at least 10,000 people in Myanmar over the weekend.
Nearly 3,000 are believed to be missing, raising the likelihood that the death toll will rise. The Red Cross is urging cash donations so it can send food and water to help prevent a humanitarian disaster.
Myanmar, an isolated country with a military regime, is cooperating with the U.N.?s effort to provide the country with aid. First lady Laura Bush says the U.S. is prepared to give more help to the country once Myanmar?s government grants permission for officials to enter and assess the need.
The Red Cross is encouraging anyone who wants more information on donating to call 1-800-Red Cross.
