A new report indicates that certain accidents are on the rise at Suffolk County intersections with red-light cameras.

The report by the county found that rear-end collisions at intersections with red-light cameras rose 35 percent in 2016.

Suffolk Legislator Bob Trotta (R-Smithtown) has sponsored a bill to get the red-light cameras taken down. He calls the cameras a money grab, and says he is not surprised by the increase in rear-end collisions.

"Anyone in their right mind would take those cameras down immediately," says Trotta.

But Suffolk County says the report also found that accidents with injuries have declined by 1.5 percent at red-light camera intersections.

Since 2010, red-light cameras have made more than $30 million for Suffolk.

The county has hired an outside consultant to review the impact of the county's red-light program.
