The Real ID deadline is Wednesday and – like it or not - adults will eventually have to present them or a passport to board a domestic flight.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced Tuesday that travelers without a REAL ID will be allowed to fly for now after deadline but may face extra steps and scrutiny.

The requirement has sparked many opinions from Connecticut residents.

"I think it’s great. I think it helps make travel a lot easier," said Phil Scarano from Greenwich. "It’s another hassle. It really is," said Lynnette Rivera from Norwalk. News 12 was outside the DMV in Norwalk where there were more mixed reviews.

"It'll be good to have it. I was hoping they would keep extending the deadline," said Shane McManamon from Stamford. McManamon was there for a Real ID appointment that he says was booked “about a month in advance.” Those with appointments must bring all needed paperwork, like a birth certificate and proof of your address.

Processing times and fees vary. It could take up to 20 days to get a hard copy of the ID. And watch out for scams. "The only way you're going to get a Real ID is whether you go to AAA, Nutmeg Credit Union or a Department of Motor Vehicle. Don't try to send something through the mail…because that is a scam," said Connecticut DMV Commissioner Tony Guerrera.
