With grocery prices continuing to go up, News 12 is putting "price shopping" to the test.
Caleb Silver, editor in chief at Investopedia says, "households have felt significant inflation at the supermarket for the past four years, where all items are up about 20 percent in the past year, there has been some leveling off, but not across all items."
Looking at the staples Silver says a gallon of milk runs about $4. A dozen eggs around $3.08 and a loaf of bread is about $1.98.
News 12's Kristie Reeter decided to "price compare" a half gallon of milk at three different stores. She looked for the cheapest option. At the first store she paid $2.47, the second store she found it for $2.99, and the last store was the most expensive at $3.29. The brands were different, but the product was the same, a half-gallon of milk.
There was a 55-cent difference in cost between the cheapest and most expensive, which adds up. Of course, driving around to get the deals costs money too but look at ads and circulars and ask if the store price matches.
