One of the men arrested in connection with the shooting of a Nassau police officer faced a Hempstead judge on Thursday.

Renhang Qiu was charged with burglary, attempted robbery and criminal possession of a weapon.

Police say Qiu, 22, and Cong Xu, 21, allegedly broke into a home on Campbell Street in New Hyde Park on Wednesday morning. Officials say that when officer Mohit Arora responded to the incident, Xu fired several shots and hit the officer in the hip.

The judge in the case has remanded bail, leaving Qiu behind bars.

Xu is currently at Nassau University Medical Center, where he was arraigned at bedside. He faces the same charges, in addition to the attempted murder of a police officer. He is recovering from an ear injury.

Both men are expected to appear back in court next week.
