The New York Rangers are hosting the New York Islanders tonight to kick off the 2016-17 season.

The Islanders won all four games against the Rangers last season. They have also won the last five games at Madison Square Garden.

The Blueshirts got bounced early from the playoffs last season against the eventual Stanley Cup champions, the Penguins. The Islanders won their first playoff series since 1993 in last year's playoffs. They eventually lost to the Capitals in the semifinals.

The puck drops on the new season at 7 p.m.
