Hundreds of people marched and rallied on Long Island Saturday night in the wake of this week's deadly shootings.
About 200 people attended a rally to support police officers in front of Massapequa High School. Many wore shirts that said "Blue Lives Matter" and carried American flags and signs.
Massapequa resident and retired Baltimore police officer David Gjodesen says he spend the previous night organizing the event. "It's evident in today's society that the police department very much needs the support of the community, both locally and nationally," he says.
Gjodesen says after the ambush in Dallas that left five officers dead, it is important to show the police that there are many people who stand with them.
