A rally outside Gov. Andrew Cuomo's office Wednesday called for him to immediately resign after Attorney General Letitia James' investigation found he sexually harassed multiple women.
Mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa was in the crowd, hand-delivering a letter to the governor's office calling on him to resign. Now, tenant advocates are calling for an eviction extension as well as Cuomo's resignation.
President Joe Biden, along with governors of multiple states, are calling for Cuomo to step down. Many are waiting to see if Speaker Carl Heastie will proceed with impeachment.
State Sen. Gustavo Rivera of the Bronx rallied outside the governor's office along with advocates and local officials, saying they were supposed to be to talk about housing but instead the focus is on the governor's future.
"He is not fit to hold office. Let's be clear what we're talking about here - the report that we saw yesterday that demonstrated beyond the shadow of a doubt the deeply toxic environment that it was in his office for such a long time demonstrates, also, his deeply toxic style of leadership and governance," Rivera said. "This is what the core of the conversation should be. We should not have someone in the state, who is leading the state, who is more worried about continuing to protect his political future as opposed to solving the issues of New Yorkers."
The governor spoke out Tuesday defending himself and saying he never touched anyone inappropriately or made inappropriate sexual advances.
