Inmate advocates and former workers rallied today outside the Nassau County Correction Center to demand reforms to the jail's medical center.
The demonstrators said the medical facility is poorly run.
"This is a disgusting example of abuse of people that need to be protected," said Dr. Dean Evan Hart, of Long Island Citizens for Good Government.
The medical facility at the jail is run by a private company called Armor Correctional Health Services. Armor was the focus of a state investigation after several inmates died when the company took over health care at the jail in 2011.
Neither Armor Correctional Health Services nor Nassau County responded to News 12 Long Island's requests for comment on this story.
