Residents turned out at a Patchogue post office Wednesday to honor a native son who died in Afghanistan.Main Street was at a standstill as a Purple Heart monument was unveiled at the post office, which was recently renamed after Navy SEAL Michael Murphy. Murphy, who would have turned 32 Tuesday, died when his unit came under fire in 2005. Only one of his comrades survived.
"He would have been in the FBI at this point ? again, protecting our nation," said Murphy's dad, Daniel Murphy. "It's bittersweet. But [we're] happy the community recognizes all of Michael's accomplishments."
