The average gas prices for Long Island have reached near $5 per gallon this weekend.
According to AAA, the national average for gas is $4.59 per gallon, while the New York average is $4.93.
Long Island’s average is at a record $4.97 per gallon. This is up 20 cents from last week and up 85 cents from April.
Experts on Long Island predict prices will climb to $6 by the end of the summer.
