Protesters voiced opposition outside Nassau County Executive Laura Curran's office Friday, calling on her to veto a new controversial bill.
The new bill, which passed the Legislature earlier this week, would allow police to file civil suits against protesters who harass or assault them.
Kiana Abbady, with the Long Island Progressive Coalition, says the legislation is not only infuriating, but it is also disheartening.
The bill would allow police to sue protesters with fines ranging from $25,000 to $50,000.
Nia Adams, of the Long Island Progressive Coalition, says the county should be more focused on police oversight and transparency.
"This is just giving more power to law enforcement," says Adams.
Curran says she wants the state attorney general to review the bill before giving her opinion on it.
