Protesters gathered in front of Representative Pete King's (R-NY) Massapequa office Friday to voice their opposition to President Bush's troop surge in Iraq.
On a day when the House of Representatives passed a nonbinding resolution disagreeing with the new Iraq policy, Long Island Progressive Coalition member Lisa Tyson and the organization joined a new statewide campaign to oppose an escalation of troop levels. Tyson, a former Marine who served in Iraq, believes Bush's policy is a step in the wrong direction. They demonstrated in front of King's office to protest his support of the surge.
Long Island's four Democrats in the House, Carolyn McCarthy, Tim Bishop, Steve Israel and Gary Ackerman, voted for the nonbinding resolution. The measure passed by a 246 to 182 vote.
