Authorities are searching for two women who dropped off a badly injured dog at a Hempstead veterinary clinic.
Surveillance video shows two women walking along Main Street in Hempstead Tuesday. A woman wearing orange can be seen leaving a package outside a clinic.
Prosecutors say a dog with open wounds and bloody bandages was inside the package.
A microchip revealed the dog's rightful owner and his name. It turns out "Nino" was stolen from his backyard in Uniondale two years ago. Acting Nassau District Attorney Madeline Singas says the dog will recover and will be reunited with his owner.
Singas says Nino was actually a birthday present 15 years ago for his rightful owner.
Anyone with information is asked to call the NCDA's Animal Crimes Unit at 516-571-7755, press option 8.
