The man who shoved a 79-year-old man in the parking lot of a Costco in Commack last Tuesday has a long rap sheet, including six felony convictions and 16 misdemeanor convictions, prosecutors say.
Robert Whittaker, 56, appeared before a judge on Wednesday afternoon on assault charges. His bail was set at $25,000 cash.
Authorities say the victim suffered severe pain after he was pushed, along with cuts to his elbow and chest and injuries consistent with a bruised kidney.
According to prosecutors, the attack happened because the victim refused to open his wallet for the suspect, who was panhandling.
