Prosecutors say they have new evidence in the murder case against a Hauppauge teen accused of killing his stepfather with a samurai sword.
Nineteen-year-old Zachary Gibian is accused of slashing Scott Nager with the sword, nearly decapitating him, in February of 2005. Prosecutors say they now have evidence suggesting Gibian wanted to get rid of his stepfather in order to cash in on a $1 million life insurance policy.
Gibian is charged with second-degree murder and faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted. Jury selection in the murder trial could begin sometime this week.
