Fallen FDNY firefighter and volunteer firefighter William Moon was returned to his hometown of Islip on Wednesday.
The FDNY led a procession down Montauk Highway.
Loved ones and friends along with fellow firefighters lined the street just east of the Oconee Diner.
Those who live nearby also came out saying that it's important because Moon was a member of their community.
"We need to show our support to his family, let them know how much we care about them and also to show support for all firefighters, the amazing job they do each and every day, not asking how or where but just there," said Susan Ellinghaus.
The flag was flown at half-staff and the Islip Fire Department hung a new plaque on their building to honor their former chief.
Last week, the 47-year-old suffered a head injury when he fell 20 feet while getting ready for a drill at his firehouse in Brooklyn.
Moon's family made the hard but life-giving decision to donate his organs.
Moon's wake will be held next Wednesday at the Chapey and Sons Funeral Home. His funeral will be held next Thursday.
Moon leaves behind his wife Kristina, a 10-year-old daughter and an 8-year-old son.
