Long Islanders are expected to gather Monday night for a prayer service to honor the victims of the Pittsburgh synagogue massacre.
Organizers say all of the Bellmore-Merrick synagogues will pray together as a community.
The Rabbi at Temple Beth Orh, in Bellmore, says security needs to be addressed at houses of worship. She says it's also important to take on the real root of the problem – prejudice and hatred.
"One of the most important things for me right now is for all of us to feel unified and for all of us to embrace love and connection rather than hate," says Rabbi Dahlia Bernstein.
Pittsburgh synagogue's Rabbi Hazzan Jeffery Myers use to serve at the now closed Congregation Bethel in Massapequa.
The prayer service starts at 7 p.m. at the Merrick Jewish Centre located at 225 Fox Blvd, Merrick, NY, 11566.
