The Yonkers Department of Public Works employee accused of driving the vehicle that fatally struck a teen on Wednesday had his license suspended and his bail set at $250,000 after a court appearance on Friday.
Police say officers responded to a call around 12:20 a.m. Wednesday for a scooter driver hit head-on by a cargo van on the 600 block of McLean Avenue. First responders found 16-year-old Christopher Jack Hackett, better known as CJ, on the ground with severe head injuries.
Hackett was taken to a trauma center in critical condition and died Thursday from his injuries.
Stephen Dolan, 46, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injury resulting in death – a class D felony. He is due back in court Aug. 12.
Tony Solieri, the father of one of the teen's friends, was at the arraignment today. He told News 12 that his son was riding with CJ when he was struck. He said he was unhappy with the bail amount and charge.
“A good person would have turned himself in, a good person would have stopped and helped the 15-year-old kid trying to hold the other kid's body together,” said Solieri. “That’s a good person – not a person who disappears.”
Hackett was a student at Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains. Earlier today, a 30-minute prayer service was held in the auditorium to remember the teen.
Grief counselors will be available at the school on Monday and Tuesday.
Service and funeral arrangement information has not been made public yet.
