The state staffing crisis at prisons has had an impact on Nassau and Suffolk jails. In Suffolk County, there are more than 100 inmates who are eligible to be transferred to a state prison. The sheriff's office says 93 of those inmates are in county custody beyond the 10-day limit of when they are supposed to be transferred to state custody.
In Nassau, sources say there are around 100 inmates awaiting transport to state prisons. District Attorney Anne Donnelly joined Rich Barrabi to discuss the impact the staffing crisis has had on Long Island.
Also, the Family and Children's Association has an initiative in Hempstead called SNUG – which involves partnerships with faith and community leaders and provides services like conflict mediation and crisis intervention. It’s also one of the organizations on the frontlines in the fight against addiction. The group's president and CEO says the rollback of $67 million in addiction and mental health funding for New York threatens to undo years of progress in the fight. Dr. Jeffrey Reynolds joins the show.
