Suffolk County has been busy so far this year. Just last week, it announced a new program to combat human trafficking cases and missing children – Operation Safe and Lasting Return. The program will create a system to share information about missing or trafficked children - between the county and state and federal authorities.

It also has a new police commissioner. Lawmakers unanimously approved Kevin Catalina's nomination and swore him in. He previously served as Suffolk's deputy commissioner.
