Power outage impacts Bedford Park residents on coldest day of the year

Several buildings on Villa Avenue in Bedford Park experienced a power outage on Sunday.

The Con Edison power outage map showed 422 customers without power between E. 205th Street and Villa Avenue. Neighbors told News 12 they noticed their lights flickering around 7 a.m. before shutting off completely.

“It’s sad, and it’s a weekend too. It’s a cold day and I don’t have no words to explain,” said neighbor Anthony Fernandez.

Other residents were stuck inside their building’s laundromat, where machines shut off mid-cycle. Eva, who uses a wheelchair, said she was unable to get home.

“I come down and do the laundry. Now my clothes are stuck in the laundry. The elevators don’t work. I don’t walk and I live on the 8th floor,” she said.

Con Edison told News 12 it was aware of the outage and was sending a crew to investigate the cause.
