The postal worker accused of hijacking people's mail and stashing it at his Nassau County home pleaded not guilty Monday.

Postal worker Richard Schaaf Jr. allegedly stole, destroyed and hoarded people's mail after failing to deliver it to residents and businesses mainly around Bethpage.

He had no comment leaving the federal courthouse in Nassau Monday, and his lawyer reiterated that his client had nothing to say.

The inspector general of the Postal Service says Schaaf kept undelivered letters at his home on West Adler Road in Bellmore.

As News 12 has reported, authorities removed dozens of garbage bags from the property last week that investigators say contained more than 1,000 pieces of mail sent between March 2017 and this month.

When News 12 returned to his address Monday, someone shooed our cameras away from an upstairs window.

The Postal Service says that while Schaaf remains on the payroll, he is not currently working with customers or mail.
