Layoffs could be looming as Long Beach struggles to pay its bills and its financial crisis is already affecting bus service.
Weekend bus service was suspended and night service could be cut Thursday.
Last week, the Long Beach City Council rejected a $2.1 million bond proposal.
The move means the city may not be able to pay its bills or even pay employees.
Officials may have to resort to layoffs to keep Long Beach afloat.
News 12 reached out to the city about service cuts and city council president Anthony Eramo said "Public transportation is extremely important, and the city is working to restore full service as soon as possible. However, there is a short-term cash-flow problem, and based on our proposed budget, we will be facing significant financial challenges going forward. The administration and the city council are committed to working together to institute pragmatic solutions."
