Strangers have tried to abduct Port Washington middle school students on three occasions this week, police said Thursday.
Manuel Hernandez, 37, was arrested for allegedly trying to get a group of middle school students into his van. Police said Hernandez approached a group while they were practicing on the high school football field.
Police are still searching for additional suspects, as officials said Hernandez is not connected to the other incidents. On Monday, police said a Hispanic man approached a student walking on Radcliff Avenue. Police said a Hispanic man also approached a female student walking alone on Mackey Avenue on Tuesday.
Police have dispatched additional patrols before and after the school day as they search for the other predators. Students said school officials made announcements warning them of the incidents and reminding them not to walk home from school on their own.
