A 6-year-old boy is recovering after being attacked by a dog Wednesday in Port Washington.
The incident happened on Guilford Road when the boy was walking to school with his mother.
Lauren Block says she arrived to the scary scene after the dog was removed and police and EMS were taking care of the boy and his mother.
“Really, really scary for all the kids in general,” Block says.
Police say the child was taken to the hospital with a head laceration.
A letter went out to families from the Port Washington School District says the school counselor visited classrooms to make sure all the children were OK.
It went on to reassure families that it was safe to walk down Guilford Road and the owner has surrendered his dog.
“What I heard was that the dog got loose but I think it shows we all have to be vigilant for the safety of our kids,” Block says.
The former owner of the dog tells News 12 he did not want to go on camera and was not in a good head space.
He did confirm that he surrendered the dog.
