With the holiday season quickly approaching, many are considering giving donations to charity.

What are Long Islanders planning to give? In a News 12/Hofstra poll, more than 15 percent said less than last year. About 9.5 percent said more than last year, just under 59 percent said the same as last year and 13 percent said they don't plan on giving.

Assistant Attorney General Valerie Singleton says people are wary of charitable scams, which is the possible cause in decline for donations.

In addition, Singleton is warning Long Islanders to watch out for organizations that have similar names to those that are well established. This may be a sign of a charity that is not reputable.
