Suffolk police detectives say a child accidentally shot himself in Elwood Sunday evening.
A 12-year-old boy accidentally fired a shotgun, striking himself in the face around 7 p.m. Sunday, police say.
Police say the child was brought to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center and later transferred to Stony Brook University Medical Center.
The boy suffered injuries not considered life-threatening, police say.
Authorities say an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
