A woman was killed in a fire in her Northport home Friday morning.
Police responded to the fire on Theron Place at approximately 7:40 a.m.
Investigators say the residents of the home, 64-year-old Ellen Carberry and her son, John Carberry, were able to exit the house. But Ellen then went back into the home to rescue her two cats, and was overcome by the fire.
Carberry was pronounced dead at the scene. Her son was not injured.
One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was treated at Huntington Hospital.
Investigators say the fire is not considered suspicious.
