A woman was fatally struck by a car after somehow falling onto a street Saturday in Lindenhurst, Suffolk County police say.

They say it happened around 6:45 p.m. on North Wellwood Avenue near Hartford Street.

Theresa Buckley, 67, was walking near her home at the corner of North Wellwood Avenue and Hartford Street when she apparently fell onto the southbound lane and was hit by a Chevy sedan.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a 27-year-old Lindenhurst man, was not injured and stayed at the scene.

It's not clear why Buckley fell onto the road.

Investigators say no charges have been filed.
