Police say a man was killed and three others were injured in a hit-and-run in Medford, and a woman has been taken into custody.
It happened on Granny Road just before 8:30 p.m. Friday.
Police say Peter Quoma, 28, had pulled over after crashing his vehicle into a parked car.
Quoma was checking out the damage when investigators say Kathy Horan, 61, hit him with her vechicle and took off.
Two of Quoma's passengers inside the vehicle were injured. The owner of the parked car that was struck, a Lake Grove woman, was standing by her vehicle and was also struck and injured by Horan, police say.
Quoma, of Selden, was pronounced dead at the hospital. Authorities say the impact of Horan's vehicle forced him to the ground, and also pinned his beloved dog, named Blaze, underneath the car.
Horan, of Medford, was eventually arrested. She was arraigned in Central Islip court today, but declined to comment to reporters. Her husband declined to comment as well.
Horan's attorney said in court that his client called police a few hours after leaving the scene.
Horan was ordered held on $75,000 cash bail or $150,000 bond. She is due back in court on Thursday.
Quoma's family was too distraught to speak with News 12 on camera, but his brother shared a statement reading in part, "The family appreciates the condolences of all who have called, or stopped by the house. We also want to thank Animal Emergency Services in Selden...The most heartfelt thank you goes out to the staff and owners at AES." The family says that the dog, Blaze, was truly Peter Quoma's best friend.
