SWAT teams swarmed a Wyandanch neighborhood after a shooting at a VFW led to a home invasion and an armed standoff.
Police say a 47-year-old Wyandanch man was shot in the leg at the VFW on Williams Street. He was transported to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
About two hours later, police say the suspect who shot at the man entered 25 Irving St. armed with a gun. The location is approximately three blocks away from the VFW hall.
Detective Lt. John Rowan, the lead investigator, says SWAT officers surrounded the house and waited. Several occupants of the house fled and a perimeter was established. A short time later, the subject exited the house and was taken into custody by Suffolk police.
Rowan called the investigation very active.
