A Nassau police officer is recovering after he was allegedly pushed down a flight of stairs while responding to a domestic dispute call in East Rockaway.

Veronica Berk, of Levittown, has been identified as the woman who allegedly pushed the 4th Precinct officer. The 31-year-old woman was arraigned on assault charges today at First District Court in Hempstead.

Police officers say they responded to the East Rockaway home because Berk was having a fight with her boyfriend. Investigators say Berk had been drinking and her boyfriend wanted her to leave.

Police say she pushed the officer down the stairs when they tried to escort her out of the house. The officer suffered injuries to his torso and left leg, and was treated at the hospital and released.

Berk is due back in court next week.
