A Uniondale man is under arrest after police say he tried to break into the office of a Jericho motel.

Police say a 24-year-old employee at the Edgewood Motel on Jericho Turnpike was brought to a room by a customer after a water leak complaint.

When the employee got back to the front desk, he noticed the office door had been tampered with.

News 12 has been told officers were called to the scene, looked at surveillance video and arrested 58-year-old Juan Monserrate.

Monserrate is facing attempted burglary and criminal mischief charges.
