Police say a motorcycle accident on Union Boulevard left a teenage boy seriously injured Friday.

They say the 14-year-old Islip resident was operating a motorcycle, heading east on Union Boulevard around 8 p.m. when the crash occurred.

Authorities say the teen ignored a red light at the intersection of Saxon Avenue, where he collided with a Tesla. The teen was transported to the hospital.

In addition to the driver, a 14-year-old girl was riding as a passenger on the motorcycle. She suffered injuries that were not life threatening.

The Tesla driver and his two passengers escaped the accident unscathed.

Details of possible charges have not yet been released.

Police have not released the names of the teens because they are minors.
