Police say a man has been arrested for firing shots from a
handgun on the grounds of Hauppauge Middle School.
According to police, the incident happened on Townline Road
around 11:45 p.m. Thursday.
A security guard at the school heard the shot and responded
to the area. The man fired another shot in the direction of the security guard.
Officials say officers responded and located the suspect a
short distance away.
The man, 27, of Hauppauge, was arrested and charged with
two counts of reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon.
Nobody was struck by the shots.
The man was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
