Police and Suffolk County officials gathered at Centereach High School Wednesday to unveil a new school bus safety initiative.
Officials say the Stop for My Bus initiative will raise awareness about school bus and road safety.
Officials provided details on their plans to prioritize student safety and tackle other concerns for the new school year.
"We're talking about safety for our children. We're talking about respect for the families in our community that want to know that our schools, our government, our police all stand together to protect our children in our community,” said Deputy County Executive Jon Kaiman.
The announcement comes after several recent accidents, including a deadly hit-and-run in Central Islip last month.
