There are new details emerging about the suspect in the West Hempstead Stop & Shop shooting that left one dead.
Gabriel Dewitt Wilson, 31, is accused of arriving for work Tuesday at the store and shooting two people, a male and a female, in an office at the store. Police say Wilson then entered a second office where a 49-year-old manager was killed.
A woman, who didn't want to be identified on camera, says she was Wilson's neighbor for about eight years at a home in Long Beach.
"I really wish I could understand why he did what he did and what was going on in his head," the woman says.
The woman says Wilson moved about two years ago and she hadn't heard anything about him until today.
According to the former neighbor, Wilson was shot in the head about 10 years ago and the injury left him with cognitive disabilities and behavioral problems.
The woman also says Wilson worked at a Stop & Shop in Long Beach for several years.
