Police: Stony Point man accused of attacking girlfriend leads police on chase that ends in crash

Police say Todd Humphrey, 46, of Stony Point, was spotted by state police around 1:30 p.m. in Putnam County.

Clarkstown police say a man wanted for assaulting his girlfriend Monday at the Tappan Zee Hotel was taken into custody following a police pursuit that ended in a crash.
Police say Todd Humphrey, 46, of Stony Point, was spotted by state police around 1:30 p.m. in Putnam County. That's when a pursuit ensued.
They say Humphrey eventually crashed on I-84 on the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge in Newburgh, halting traffic in both directions for hours. According to police, Humphrey and another driver sustained minor injuries.
Police say the woman had lacerations to her head and was recovering in the hospital.
Humphrey, who is accused of hitting his girlfriend with what appeared to be a hammer, is facing attempted murder and assault charges. Police say after Humphrey is arraigned he will be taken to Rockland County Jail.
