Police say the supervisor of a Hempstead home for recovering addicts tried to cover up the death of one of his residents by setting the body on fire.
The body of sober house resident Frank Gangale was found burning in a pickup truck Sunday night. Police say Gangale died in his room of a heroin overdose, according to fellow residents.
The home's supervisor Christopher Rankin, took the body, put it in the pickup truck, and then torched it, police say. According to authorities, Rankin told residents he burned the body so the sober house would not get a bad reputation. Gangale was the second resident to die in the past week.
Rankin is charged with arson and tampering with physical evidence. He will be arraigned Tuesday.
