A 5-year-old Shirley boy had to be treated at a hospital after eating cannabis-infused gummies he received while trick-or-treating, police say.
The gummies were in packaging with similar branding to Starburst candy and were labeled as containing cannabis.
After eating the gummies, the child was treated and released from Long Island Community Hospital on Nov. 8.
At this time, police believe the incident was isolated.
Suffolk County police are reminding parents to check their children's Halloween candy.
Anyone who finds candy that has potentially been tampered with or contains drugs should call police.
