Police are searching for the gunman behind 14 store holdups across Long Island.
Police say they have now linked a robbery at the Babies R Us in Westbury on Monday to a string of similar holdups across Nassau and Suffolk counties.
According to police, around 5 a.m. the masked man forced his way into the store after an employee let another employee inside. Police say the man was wearing a mask and then handcuffed one employee while he forced the other to open a safe.
Nassau Detective Lt. Richard Lebrun says in all of the robberies the suspect was wearing a black type ski mask.
In addition, Lebrun says he displays what appears to be a black semi-automatic weapon and he either uses costume handcuffs or zip ties to tie up the victims.
The robbery spree started August 20 and includs stores like New York and Company, Pier One and Rainbow Shops.
No one has been hurt, but police say they have stepped up patrols at shopping centers.
If you have any information about the serial robber, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
