Police are searching for the person who attacked a man inside of a Patchogue store.

Authorities say an argument spiraled out of control and into a brawl on Oct. 23 at Plaza La Familia on East Main Street. Police say surveillance video shows two men in an argument that escalated quickly. The larger man eventually gains the upper hand against his victim and leaves the scene. But then, police say he returned in less than a minute, sprinted toward the victim and repeatedly struck him with an object.

Authorities have not determined that the object was a knife, but say the victim suffered severe facial and upper body lacerations.

Police say the two men don't know each other and that it's unclear what they were fighting over. But store employee Maria Taveras says the fight was over who was going to pay for beer because the victim didn't have any money.

The attacker is described as a heavy man with short black hair and a tattoo of a barbed wire on his right bicep. Anyone with information is urged to call Suffolk County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
