The hunt is on for a driver who led a police officer on a pursuit and caused him to crash into a tree.

Authorities say a Muttontown police lieutenant slammed his SUV into a tree yesterday on Eastwood Muttontown Road while chasing a car that was going more than 100 mph over the speed limit.

Police believe the driver has been speeding in the village for a number of years and has a poor driving record. Authorities say the car, a black Infiniti Coupe, was going too fast for cops to get a license plate number to confirm that it's the driver they think it is.

When the driver is caught, police say he will be arrested on a number of charges, including reckless driving.
