Police seek clues in 35-year-old cold case
Police are hoping to find new clues in a 35-year-old cold case killing of a Brentwood woman.
State police say Tina Foglia, 19, was last seen leaving Hammerheads Bar, then located in West Islip, on Feb. 1, 1982. Two days later, several plastic bags containing human remains were found on the shoulder of the ramp leading from the Southern State Parkway westbound to the Sagtikos Parkway. Authorities say those remains were Foglia's.
It's a day that even more than 35 years later, her sister Amy Gagliardi remembers vividly.
"My sister was my best friend," says Gagliardi, who has since moved to Virginia.
At just 11 months apart, Gagliardi says she and her sister were like twins, doing everything together while growing up in Bayside, Queens.
The inseparable sisters were apart for two years when Gagliardi says Foglia ran away from home at age 16. But she says they reconnected when she came home in 1981 after the Foglia family moved to Brentwood.
Gagliardi says that while some of her siblings have given up hope that police will find her sister's killer, she never will.
State police say the investigation is still active and that they have conducted numerous interviews and followed hundreds of leads over the years. They ask anyone who may have information on the case to call them at 631-756-3300.
